Trigger Point Therapy Technique

Trigger point techniques are used in many massage therapy styles, including deep tissue and sports massages. Book your preferred massage and discuss this technique with your therapist.

Trigger point therapy is a hands-on technique that targets tight knots in your muscles called trigger points. These knots can develop from overuse, injury, or poor posture and can cause pain, tightness, and even weakness in other parts of your body. We have the best Massage Therapists who use sustained pressure, sometimes combined with stretching or other techniques, to release the trigger points and improve your range of motion. Massaging trigger points can cause temporary discomfort. Make sure to communicate with your therapist throughout the treatment.

What is trigger point therapy technique?

Trigger point therapy focuses deep pressure on specific trigger point knots to deactivate them. Myofascial massage technique is broader, using sustained pressure and stretching techniques to address restrictions throughout the fascia, not just isolated knots. Trigger point therapy is ideal for pinpointing and eliminating deep muscle pain, while myofascial massage is better suited for overall tightness and improved fascia health.

How do trigger point therapy and myofascial massage differ?

Is trigger point therapy right for me?

If you're experiencing muscle pain, stiffness, or limited mobility, repetitive strain injuries, trigger point therapy could be a great approach. If it’s general tightness, you may want myofascial massage. Thankfully, we offer both at Jasper124 Massage Therapy! Chat with your RMT to help you determine if it's the right treatment for your specific needs.

Pain Relief

By deactivating trigger points, this technique is helpful for many types of pain, but especially chronic pain conditions like headaches, neck pain, and lower back pain.

Improved Flexibility

Tight trigger points can restrict your range of motion. Trigger point therapy helps release this tension, allowing your muscles to move more freely and improving your overall flexibility.

Better Circulation

By releasing trigger points that are impeding blood flow, trigger point therapy can improve circulation. This brings fresh oxygen and nutrients to your muscles to promote healing and reduce inflammation.

Improved Posture Support

Trigger point therapy can help with your posture by alleviating muscle tension that pulls your body out of alignment.

Faster Recovery from Injuries

When trigger points form around your injury, this can make it harder to heal. By addressing these knots, trigger point therapy can help accelerate the healing process and improve your recovery time.

Stress, Anxiety, and General Relief

When you’re stressed, your muscles often tighten. Trigger point therapy can help ease muscle tension, promoting relaxation and reducing overall stress levels. This can also improve your sleep quality.

Decreased Reliance on Medication

Trigger point therapy can reduce your need for over-the-counter medications. When your sleep and physical health improve, it can result in less frequent use of medications that you might be taking for physical and mental help.

What Our Clients Are Saying

"The people are great! Friendly staff and flexible appointments. They have direct billing with insurance too which is really nice. I've been going in for deep tissue massage for the last 3 weeks and my muscles are finally loosening up. Grace is amazing at deep tissue massage. I highly recommend her if that's what you're looking for... and it takes me a lot to say that. I don't give praise unless it's deserved."

Tannis Mason

"I dealt with shoulder pain for a year and half. I saw multiple massage therapists throughout that time and no one could seem to relieve the pain and stiffness. One session with Craig and he fixed it. He even knew the cause just based on my description of the issue before we even started the massage. I highly recommend him!"

Candida Tookey

"Amazing results! I've been meeting with Craig for a few months now, and we've managed to completely obliterate my chronic shoulder pain. Craig uses a number of different modalities to address issues you may be experiencing. He's enthusiastic about his work, and it comes through in our sessions. Craig's jovial and professional personality was key to putting any hesitations I may have had at ease, as he was the first male massage therapist I've worked with. Always comfortable, always professional."

Kim Davidson

"Lexy was great. She's clearly passionate about massage, health & fitness, and she was very knowledgeable on ways to correct tightness in my body. She even provided stretching suggestions/examples specific to my problem areas after my massage time had run out."
